Sylvester Stallone Wanted to Star in ‘Rambo’ Prequel Using AI

Everyone thought I was crazy,” Stallone says of his idea to use AI to play an 18-year-old Rambo.
More than 40 years after originating the character of John Rambo in the film First Blood, Sylvester Stallone isn’t ready to say goodbye to this iconic role just yet. The prominent actor recently revealed on a podcast that he pitched an idea for his return to the franchise.
Instead of continuing the story after the events of 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood, Stallone proposed making a prequel so he could play an 18-year-old Rambo using de-aging AI technology.
He said of his idea: “Everyone thought I was crazy. But AI is sophisticated enough to go back to Saigon to see him at 18 years old and basically use the same image. So it isn’t as big a stretch.

However, instead of Stallone, Noah Centineo has reportedly been in talks to play the character in the Rambo prequel. In response to another actor taking on one of his iconic roles, Stallone warned that accepting a role that has already been created is extremely difficult.
He explained, referring to his role in the film Get Carter: “It’s very, very hard. He may do a stellar job, but you always have to fight that prejudice. Everyone loves the original, and you’re always fighting that prejudice.”
While the prequel’s story details have yet to be revealed, it’s said that the film will delve into the origin story of a young John Rambo during the Vietnam War. The project is scheduled to begin filming in Thailand in early 2026. Lionsgate is reportedly the frontrunner to distribute the film.
According to reports, the five previous films in the franchise have grossed over $800 million worldwide, with the most recent, Rambo: Last Blood, ending its run with a $92 million box office haul.
